Williams was originally committed to play for Auburn University but changed to the University of Alabama.
He redshirted his freshman year at Alabama in 2016, and then played all 14 games of the 2017 season.
He was named a unanimous first-team All-American and first-team All-SEC as well as awarded the Outland Trophy for being the nation’s best interior lineman.

During the COVID-19 Pandemic Williams donated healthy meals to medical professionals on the front line in New Jersey.
He helped give away over 10,000 boxes of fruits and vegetables for those in need in his hometown of Birmingham, Alabama through and event held by former Alabama football player, Chris Rogers, who created the nonprofit organization Together Assisting People (TAP).
