Nineteen New York dairy farmers joined ADA North East in a “Dinner on the Square,” for a two-way discussion meet focused on farmers’ view of the industry’s future and how their checkoff investment is managed to grow dairy sales and trust.
Discussion topics circled around three categories – environmental stewardship, reaching the next generation of consumers (students), and consumer education and confidence. ADA North East staff highlighted our local checkoff programs, and Dairy Management Inc., staff discussed national efforts related to each topic.
Former USDA Secretary and chair of the US Dairy and Export Council Tom Vilsack also participated in the event and discussed checkoff’s important role in exports and global markets.
Participating farmers were: Bret Bossard, Barbland Dairy, Fabius; Austin Copenhaver, Ivy Lakes Dairy, Stanley; Kristin and Slade Cox, Ox Cart Dairy, Cato; Audrey Donohoe, Atrass Farm, Frankfort; Angela Eichorst, Riverside Dairy LLC, Tully; Sarah and Chris Ficken, New Moon Dairy, Munnsville; Dave Harvatine, Aurora Ridge Dairy, Aurora; Keith Kimball, Casa de Leche, LLC, Geneseo; Bill and Kelli Morgan, Scipio Springs, Union Springs; John and George Mueller, Willow Bend, Clifton Springs; Lisa and Greg Porter, Porterdale Farms, Adams; Steve Palladino, Walnut Ridge Dairy, Groton; Joel Riehlman, Venture Farms, Tully; and Kim Skellie, El-VI Farms, Newark.
