Great American Milk Drive Sales Get Milk to Local Families

The national retail campaign – The Great American Milk Drive – garnered more than $320,000 in checkout line donations here in the ADA North East region to support the purchase of milk for food banks.

Safeway – donations totaled $192,915 and 48,349 gallons of milk
Shoppers Food and Pharmacy – donations totaled $46,024 and 11,535 gallons of milk
ShopRite – donations totaled $81,908 and 20,528 gallons of milk

ADA North East partners with these local retailers, along with National Dairy Council, Milk Processor Education Program (MilkPEP) and Feeding America to support The Great American Milk Drive, to help get milk into the hands of families who need and want it.

Even though fresh milk is one of the most requested food items, food banks are challenged to meet the demand because of milk’s perishability. Themed “Feed a Childhood,” the 2019 campaign helps ensure kids in need receive the benefits of milk’s essential nutrients by providing access to it.
