Checkoff Helping Advocates Share Social Media Messaging

Dairy checkoff is helping young agriculture advocates develop and share positive messages through social media. Programs like ADA North East’s Dairy Food and Advocacy Network (DairyFAN) and national program, College Aggies Online (CAO) that utilizes Dairy Management Inc.’s Don Schindler, senior vice president of digital innovations, help participants craft positive social media messages.

DairyFAN has 45 members and combines interactive social media engagement and leadership training, food issues education, and opportunities for networking and participating in digital initiatives around food. Members are asked to regularly engage in social media interactions a least five times per week, expand their network, initiate and respond to key food topics, and participate in special online DairyFAN events such as DairyFAN-hosted Twitter parties.

Members are also encouraged to attend quarterly educational sessions – the next webinar is Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. – and participate in ADA North East events and other industry events.
