Dairying for Tomorrow Award Winners Recognized at Maryland State Fair

Dairying for Tomorrow (DFT) award winners were recognized during the Holstein show at the Maryland State Fair on Monday. ADA North East board member and dairy farmer Sherry Patterson of Chestertown, Md., presented the awards to the families. The awards are designed to recognize dairy farmers who are committed to moving the dairy industry into the future.

Overall Winner, Animal Care - Misty Meadows Farm

Misty Meadows Farm, Smithsburg, Maryland, received the overall Dairying for Tomorrow animal care award. Misty Meadows Farm is owned and operated by Jeni and Justin Malott and daughters Addison, Jillian, Vivian and Ella, along with Jeni’s parents David and Betsy Herbst. They milk 150 cows and process some milk in their on-farm creamery and ship some to Maryland & Virginia Milk Producers Cooperative, who nominated the family for the award.  

Honorable Mention, Community Outreach - Fawn View Manor

Fawn View Manor, Pylesville, Maryland, received the honorable mention award for community outreach. Fawn View Manor is owned by Mary and Greg Stewart and children Abby, Bradley, Zachery, Thomas and Taylor. Mary developed a dairy education center around Fawn View Manor, the dairy farm owned by her parents, Jim and Janet Archer, where they host school tours, farm-to-table dinner events, parties, weddings and other community events.
