Food Bloggers Learn About Dairy Industry, Share Info with Followers

This week, 13 food bloggers from four states gathered for a dairy tour hosted by ADA North East. The event provided the bloggers a first-hand view of the industry to help establish trust in dairy farming and dairy foods. The bloggers posted dairy images and positive messaging on their blogs and social media channels to share with their more than one million followers.

Colleen Kennedy, blogger for Souffle Bombay from Richboro, Pa.:
“Getting the behind the scenes farm tour and learning more about where our food comes from makes me appreciate what American dairy farmers do more and more!”

Tour stops included a farm-to-table dinner at Muranda Cheese in Waterloo, New York, and a visit to Hemdale Farms in Seneca Castle, New York, to see its robotic dairy operation.

Eileen Kelly, blogger for Everyday Eileen from Long Island, N.Y.:
“I’ve learned so much and am thinking of ways of adding more dairy into my baking and my savory dishes. It’s also so amazing to see how farms are inundating all new robotic technology for milking the cows.”

Clay Hemminger from Hemdale Farms said, “The importance of hosting tours and being transparent to the public is so people can come in and see what we do and see what we’re passionate about.” The farm’s dairy manager Pete Maslyn added, “It’s important that they know where their food comes from and that they trust where their food comes from.”

Dairy farmer Chris Noble from Noblehurst Farm in Pavilion, New York, joined the group for dinner conversation at Kindred Fare restaurant.

The event also included a workshop on the science of cooking with dairy, a Moon Milk recipe station, wine and cheese pairings, a latte art demonstration and photo contest, and a recipe and food styling competition. Each blogger developed and submitted a recipe using dairy for the competition that ADA North East has the rights to use and promote.
