Food Industry Professionals Learn about Dairy Environmental Efforts

This week, ADA North East Director of Environmental Outreach Ron Ohrel and the Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy’s Social Responsibility Officer Lisa Watson provided an overview of the dairy industry’s environmental efforts at the New York State Association for Food Protection annual conference. 

The organization’s membership includes milk cooperatives, dairy and food processing plants, regulatory agencies, colleges, food distribution companies, supply and equipment manufacturing companies, and laboratories, among others. 

Ron highlighted ADA North East’s work in New York and neighboring states to increase key stakeholder awareness and support of dairy farmers’ environmental stewardship work. 

The Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy, formed in 2008, is a voluntary, industry-wide initiative to align, promote and speak with one voice about the good work of farmers and the dairy community. Lisa Watson shared the center’s efforts related to food safety, and highlighted the recently launched U.S. Dairy Stewardship Commitment dairy’s pledge to demonstrate and document how it responsibly produces milk and dairy products, while bringing value to the communities it serves.
