Lisa Porter of Porterdale Farms, Adams Center, N.Y., along with the Jefferson County Dairy Promotion team, participated in a milk and food distribution in Watertown, N.Y., on Wednesday. Families received 1,000 gallons of milk donated by Dairy Farmers of America; dairy products from Cabot Cheese and Great Lakes Cheese; meat donated by Lucki 7 Livestock Company; and produce.

In addition, Hannaford Supermarkets contributed $10 gift cards, tissues and toilet paper, and the United Way of Northern New York distributed hand sanitizer.

“This event was local people, farmers and businesses making direct donations to our local community because we care about our neighbors and we want people to have what they need,” said Porter.

Porter participated in several media interviews related to the milk drive, including a pre-event interview on WWNY-TV in Watertown, explaining why dairy farmers support these distribution opportunities.

Other dairy farmer participants included Peggy Murray of Murcrest Farm in Copenhagen, N.Y., and Todd Hyman of Hylight Farms LLC, Adams, N.Y.
