Overseas Markets Show Foodservice Opportunity for U.S. Dairy Industry

Author: Administrator | March 07, 2019

Checkoff’s partnership with globally recognized foodservice leaders like McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Domino’s and Pizza Hut have yielded many successes for dairy in the last decade. Our food scientists have provided support on product development, we have shared science-based dairy nutrition research, and offered marketing insights on trends that interest consumers.

In collaboration with U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC), checkoff is taking this successful model into the international marketplace. Pilot partnerships with Yum! Brands, Inc., saw increased U.S. cheese usage. Specifically, the Pizza Hut pilot in the Asia-Pacific region (16 countries and 5,000 stores) launched five pizzas that feature U.S.-produced cheese, and TV commercials to raise awareness of U.S. cheese.

The KFC pilot was focused in the Latin America and Caribbean regions (40 countries and 1,200 stores) with a dairy checkoff food scientist helping create chicken and cheese ideas to arrive in the marketplace later in 2019.
