Sustainable Nutrition Discussed with Food Industry Reps

Audrey Donahoe (third from right) and Clayton Wood (fourth from right) participated in the Geneva conversation.

ADA North East hosted its first-ever Nourish Dialogue Dinners with food system industry representatives and local dairy farmers. Dairy farmer and ADA North East board member Jennifer Heltzel, Martinsburg, Pa.; dairy farmer and National Dairy Council chair Audrey Donahoe from Clayville, N.Y.; and dairy farmer and Cargill animal nutritionist Clayton Wood from Geneva, N.Y., participated in the discussions.

“As a dairy farmer our goal is to make food and hopefully have it go to places where it’s needed. There are obviously a lot of people who can use our product as a source of affordable, nutrition, efficient and sustainable food. Through discussions like this we can hopefully help this become a reality.” – Clayton Wood

Building relationships with nutrition stakeholders from community food banks, retail dietitians, and anti-hunger advocates among others will positively position dairy while accelerating innovative solutions to producing nourishing food to benefit the health of people, communities and the planet.

For instance, Debbi Beauvais, Registered Dietitian and Director of School Nutrition Services at Gates Chili Central School District, East Irondequoit Schools and East Rochester Union Free School District said, “It has been my mission to defend chocolate milk in schools since it has been a topic of discussion. We are arguing over 30 calories, and that’s 30 calories of something with nutrition.”
