A Feeding America study found that 77 percent of daily milk intake for low income children comes from school meals. To help school nutrition directors prepare for the atypical upcoming school year, ADA North East’s youth programs team developed a new online resource. The “Nutrition Connection provides valuable tools, resources and links to help provide students with healthy meals that include milk in a safe and efficient environment.
One key area includes equipment and packaging methods to distribute lunches depending on school requirements — classroom delivery, grab and go equipment, efficient packaging, and protective equipment for student safety.
ADA North East is also offering a Back 2 School Equipment Rewards Grant. Application proposals must show how the equipment will increase dairy consumption in school meals. Applications are due Aug. 31, and the equipment will be implemented in schools between November and December.
