“Being an advocate for our farmers is extremely important in order to ensure the industry’s continued success in providing our nation’s communities with nutritious dairy products,” said Jack Failing, the 2021 Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program Scholarship winner. A junior in Saint Joseph University’s Food Marketing Co-op program, Failing will receive the $3,000 scholarship awarded to a student with an interest in dairy product marketing.
A Philadelphia native, he aspires to provide for food desert communities including fresh, affordable dairy products. Beyond this, he hopes to work in food innovation and envisions helping retailers rebrand traditional milk by improving packaging, incorporating more appealing print elements, and increasing the marketing of milk’s health benefits to help grow the category.
“This scholarship is an investment in the future of the dairy industry,” said dairy farmer and PDPP Chair Jeff Raney of Adamsville, Pa. “We were impressed with the innovative dairy students who applied and are interested in meeting the ever-changing demands of consumers that will help us continue to move the industry forward.”
