Fuel Up, the in-school nutrition and physical activity program launched by National Dairy Council and American Dairy Association North East, in collaboration with the United States Department of Agriculture, is helping to make wellness part of the game plan in nearly 73,000 schools across the country.

Fuel Up teaches students to fuel up with nutrient-rich foods like dairy, fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins and get 60 minutes of physical activity every day. These healthy habits are reinforced through point-earning activities, events, and student leadership.

How it Works

An adult – often a teacher or wellness coordinator signs up as the Program Advisor for the school. Program Advisors then form a team of students to lead the way on healthy changes around school.

The program Playbook encourages the team to complete a project to increase healthy eating at school as well as increase physical activity. The Program Advisor enters information about steps taken and projects completed on the school’s Fuel Up dashboard.

Throughout the school year, there are opportunities to apply for funds to implement these projects at your school. You can find out more about funding opportunities here.

Schools are then eligible to earn prizes and students start seeing the results of their leadership and hard work. Everyone benefits from a healthier future!

Challenges and Contests

Contests keep students engaged and help your school earn extra prizes and recognition, including events featuring NFL player visits and more.
