Dairy farmers are doing their part to make sure kids in New York City have access to healthy meals that include milk during the summer months. Last week, ADA North East partnered with the city to host a Summer Meals kickoff event at the PS20 Anna Silver School in Manhattan, just one of 400 locations in NYC’s five boroughs. Involvement with these events with the nation’s largest school district keep ADA North integrated in the schools and protect dairy on school menus.

Established by USDA to fill the nutritional gap families face during the summer, ADA North East joins forces with local community groups to support the program and to secure dairy’s place as part of healthy meals.

The kickoff informed the community about the availability of free breakfast and lunch, which include milk. Many families are not aware that meals are still available when school is out and may need to spend up to $300 a month to feed children during the summer months.
