ADA North East youth nutrition specialists provided marketing tips, service strategies, new menu options and equipment to feed more students, increase meal participation and sell more dairy during the pandemic.
Local examples
Pittsburgh Public Schools – helped facilitate access to school meals in the classroom and in alternate locations that boosted average dairy consumption. Results included:
- Breakfast – 84,066 additional students for a 208% increase
- Lunch – 155,834 additional students for a 385% increase
Our cheese and yogurt programs also sell more dairy by developing new recipes and menu items to serve during breakfast and lunch.
Yogurt results included:
“Yogurt All Ways” – 32 schools enrolled in the program and racked up a 305% increase in yogurt sales!
“We kicked off the smoothie program by offering ‘Very Berry Smoothies’ in the high school and increased breakfast sales by 8 percent!” – Sharon Dyke, Middle County Central School District, N.Y., School Nutrition Coordinator
