American Dairy Association North East teams up with Market 32 and Price Chopper during National Dairy Month to provide fresh milk for families in need

(June 1, 2026) ALBANY, N.Y. – As families across the region face higher grocery costs and children lose access to school meals during summer break, American Dairy Association North East is once again joining forces with Market 32 and Price Chopper for Fill a Glass with Hope® — a campaign that helps provide fresh milk to local food banks.

The campaign kicks off June 1 in celebration of National Dairy Month and runs through July 18, inviting Market 32 and Price Chopper shoppers to donate at checkout to help provide milk for children and families in their local communities.

Summer is often one of the most difficult times of year for families facing food insecurity, as children lose access to free or reduced-price school meals and food banks experience a major spike in demand. With prices rising faster than paychecks for the first time in three years and more than 2.8 million New Yorkers facing hunger (14% of the state’s population), the need for support is especially urgent. Programs like Fill a Glass with Hope® help close that gap by ensuring families have access to essential nutrition when they need it most.

“Milk remains one of the most requested items at food banks, yet one of the least donated,” said Pam Cerrone, director of community relations for Market 32 and Price Chopper. “Through this campaign, we’re reinforcing the important role dairy plays in helping families stay nourished and healthy while helping make a real difference for our neighbors.”

While canned and shelf-stable goods are commonly donated, fresh milk is rarely available due to its perishability. As a result, food banks can typically provide less than one gallon of milk per person each year.

“Our family farm works hard every day to produce nutritious, wholesome milk for families,” said American Dairy Association North East board president and dairy farmer Audrey Donahoe of ATRASS Farm in Clayville, N.Y. “Providing food to our communities is something dairy farmers care deeply about, and this campaign helps ensure more children and families have access to fresh milk when they need it most.”

Fill a Glass with Hope® is a joint effort between American Dairy Association North East, dairy farmers, agriculture partners, and business leaders working together to provide fresh milk to families in need through a network of local food banks.

Now in its 12th year, the partnership between American Dairy Association North East and Market 32 and Price Chopper has generated more than $315,000 — equivalent to 156,000 half-gallons of milk — and provided more than 1.2 million servings of milk for families across the region.
