Nothing will ever damper our love affair with cheese and making a holiday cheeseboard in celebration. It’s easy to put together a classy cheese board in minutes. Just plan ahead!

Choosing cheeses. Start with your favorite cheese. One of the most popular varieties used for cheeseboards is Cheddar. But why stop there? Aim for about three to four different types of cheese with different textures and flavors like a hard Parmesan or Gruyère, a semisoft Havarti, a soft Mozzarella or Brie, or mild-flavored Gouda or Havarti… the possibilities are endless, so have fun with it!

Serve cheese at room temperature. Remove the cheese from the refrigerator an hour before serving to bring out its flavor and aroma.  And resist the temptation to cut all the cheeses ahead of time.

Vary the selections. Add a variety of accompaniments to your holiday cheese board, too! Pair cheeses with crunchy crackers or crusty bread, salty meats and nuts, seasonal sweet jams, fruit or honey, and tangy mustard or olives.

Organizing the cheeseboard. Place the cheeses on the outside edges of the board. It’s helpful to label the different types of chunk cheeses. Add the meats and olives in the center, and bread, crackers and other accompaniments around the board.
