The annual butter sculpture, featuring Philadelphia and Pittsburgh sports team mascots, was unveiled Thursday with help from dairy farmers and ADA North East board members, Marie Canon from West Middlesex, Mercer County, in western Pennsylvania, and Tim Kurtz from Elverson, Berks County, in eastern Pennsylvania.
The sculpture features Philadelphia Flyers’ Gritty, Philadelphia Eagles’ Swoop and Pittsburgh Steelers’ Steely McBeam united at a tailgate celebration featuring dairy snacks like milkshakes, cheeseburgers, pizza and cheese. The theme encourages all Pennsylvanians to be a fan of Pennsylvania dairy and give a cheer to the more than 6,200 dairy farmers in the Commonwealth.
Jim Victor and Marie Pelton of Conshohocken, Montgomery County, carved the work of art from 1,000 pounds of butter donated by Land O’Lakes.
Pennsylvania Lt. Governor John Fetterman, Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding and Pennsylvania Dairy Princess Paige Peiffer also participated in the unveiling.
