Butter Sculpture Butter Arrives!
News of the butter sculpture butter arrival at the New York Fairgrounds a few weeks before the start of the fair spread across New York State with over 90 stories, from New York City to Buffalo, every major New York media market featured the arrival of the butter. Media stories from WWNY TV FOX Watertown, WABC TV NYC, WHEC TV NBC Rochester, and WSYR TV ABC Syracuse along with online features on LongIsland.com, Lite987.com and CNYHomepage.com, and a radio story from WABC AM Radio NYC are just a few examples that have netted over $230,000 of publicity, 3.1 million impressions and excellent messaging about recycling.

Butter Sculpture Unveiling
The curtains dropped and the 57th Annual NY Butter Sculpture, Dairy For Good: Nourish. Grow. Thrive., was unveiled on August 19. Celebrating the joy and nourishment dairy provides at every stage of life, the sculpture was inspired by the 125th Anniversary of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and its local New York author, L. Frank Baum. Media buzz began early with dairy ambassadors appearing on WSTM TV NBC Syracuse and WTVH TV CBS Syracuse. Coverage continued after the unveiling, including a national feature on NBC TV NEWS NOW that aired across the country, as well as local stories on the WTVH CBS and WSTM NBC stations in Syracuse, the WUHF FOX and WRPCE CBS stations in Rochester, WGRZ TV NBC Buffalo, WUTR TV ABC Utica, and WSKADT TV PBS Elmira.

Dairy Day
Dairy Day on August 28 made headlines everywhere, with dozens of stories showcasing everything from milk’s powerhouse nutrition to show-stopping cows to the fan-favorite Undeniably Dairy Shake-off! Highlights included CNY Central’s feature on the Milk Bar, WSYR TV ABC Syracuse with ADA North East registered dietitian Michelle Barber breaking down dairy nutrition, WTVH TV CBS Syracuse covering the cow competitions, plus sweet coverage of the milkshake contest on WTVH TV CBS Syracuse and WSYR TV ABC Syracuse Reel. The team from 93Q Radio took the trophy this year with “Scooch’s 93Q-cicle Milkshake,” a nod to the Syracuse Mets baseball team and their furry mascot.

Butter Sculpture Recylcing
The final activation of the New York State Fair—Butter Sculpture Recycling—took place on September 2. The 10th Anniversary of Noblehurst Farms, in Western New York, recycling the butter was highlighted by stations across the state with coverage by WSYR TV ABC Syracuse, Syracuse Post Standard, WTVH TV CBS Syracuse, Spectrum News, WBNG TV CBS Binghamton and the Livingston County News.

Maryland’s Undeniably Dairy Milkshake Contest on August 29 stirred up major buzz, landing in more than 30 news stories! WBAL TV NBC Baltimore crowned the winning shake on air, with coverage also featured on WBAL TV Reel and WJZ TV CBS Baltimore.
