Local dairy farmers are submitting letters-to the-editor to their local newspapers inviting consumers to visit them at their county fair to learn more about the dairy industry. ADA North East is supporting dairy farmers to submit the letters, which remind consumers how much they care about their cows at the fair and at home on the farm. Building connections with farmers and their cows strengthens dairy’s image with those who buy milk and dairy foods.

To-date, several letters-to-the-editor have been submitted and printed by the farmers’ local newspapers. One example is the letter from Jordan Kennedy of Four Seasons Farm in Butler, Pa., which was printed in the Butler Eagle and in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

“I was surprised at how many comments I received about the letter,” said Kennedy. “It was a great way to reach our local consumers with positive dairy messages since so many still read the newspaper in our community, and it hopefully brought them to the show with a new view of our industry.”
