During National School Breakfast Week last week, four New York schools and one New Jersey school each received a $7,000 breakfast cart through a grant from the PepsiCo Foundation and GENYOUth.

The five schools in the ADA North East territory receiving the breakfast carts will now increase breakfast offerings and student participation and thereby sell more dairy foods in the schools. Nationally, only one percent of students participate in breakfast at school, but when breakfast is offered with the portable carts, nearly 30 percent of students eat breakfast. One cart can supply more than 100,000 breakfast meals in one year, providing students with yogurt parfaits, cheese sticks and assorted milk options.

GENYOUth is the national nonprofit dedicated to creating healthier school communities, whose flagship program is Fuel Up to Play 60 started by the National Dairy Council and the National Football League.
