December 21 marks the winter solstice. A day with the shortest amount of daylight of the entire year and officially, the first day of winter.

For avid outdoor winter enthusiasts, it’s the most wonderful time of the year. Playing outdoors all day, whether skiing, skating, and snowmobiling or sledding, or simply taking a walk amidst the snowflakes, can be invigorating. And afterward heading home to thaw out and warm up with a cup of hot chocolate is well-deserved!

For dairy farmers, it’s time to take extra measures in keeping cows cozy in winter. Cows don’t mind the cold when they are well fed, healthy and have dry bedding. But even they can only tolerate so much.

For the rest of us, it’s time to bundle up with a blanket and binge watch our favorite shows, curl up with man’s best friend and a good book, or warm up in the kitchen under the pretense of creating a hot homecooked meal.

Warm your body and soul with this collection of winter recipes for soups, pastas and fondues from our friends at Savor Recipes.
