February is Lactose Intolerance Awareness month and we’re excited to provide retail Registered Dietitian Nutritionists information on Lactose-free milk for you to share with your shoppers. We want shoppers and you to know that just because they may be lactose intolerant, it doesn’t mean they have to give up nutrient-rich milk all together. Lactose-free milk provides the same essential nutrients, such as calcium and vitamin D, found in regular milk without lactose.
Lactose-free milk is full of nutrition and free of lactose.
Talking Points
Lactose intolerance is the inability to digest lactose, which is the natural sugar in dairy products. Lactose intolerance is a very individualized condition. There are often many ways for those with lactose intolerance or showing lactose intolerance symptoms to continue to enjoy the great taste and nutritional benefits of dairy foods, like starting with lactose-free milk.
Here is some information on lactose-free milk:
- Lactose-free milk is real cow’s milk, just without the lactose, making it easier to digest for those with lactose intolerance.
- Lactose-free milk provides the same 13 essential nutrients as regular milk, such as calcium, protein, vitamin D, and B vitamins.
- Lactose-free milk has the same taste, texture and nutrients as regular milk. In addition, it can be substituted for regular milk in your favorite recipes.
