New York Thursdays bring foods grown and raised in New York state to New York public school cafeterias every Thursday, to help students learn how much of what they eat comes from local farms and dairies. Extend this learning from the cafeteria to the classroom by taking your students on a video field trip to a New York dairy farm.
NYS 30% Initiative
Did you know that school districts who purchase at least 30% of ingredients for their school lunch programs from New York farms can receive 25 cents per meal in reimbursement?
This is known as the “30% NYS Initiative” and was created to help provide students with a variety of healthy farm fresh products in their school meal programs.

Students are learning and caring more about environmentally and nutritionally sustainable foods – including locally sourced dairy and other farm-fresh items. They also crave activity and excitement, and we want to help you deliver both while also enriching student well-being and readiness to learn. This New York Thursdays promotion supports schools’ ongoing efforts to encourage students to eat healthy, local school meals on Thursday and every day.
Look out for our new promotion contest in the fall of 2023.
